Yesterday it was Phyllis' 46th birthday! And she decided to host a slumber party, all over blogland. Well ladies, are you wearing your pj's? Let's go upstairs.

Welcome to my bedroom on a much more sunny day than today.



We did a total make over beginning 2004. Today it is way too dark to take photos, but there were no major changes since then.

Eerst wat foto's van de slaapkamer die we begin 2004 opgeknapt hebben.
Sindsdien heb ik eigenlijk alleen maar kleine dingetjes veranderd. Ik denk altijd goed na wat ik wil. Het duurt altijd wel even voordat ik helemaal klaar ben, zie nu ook weer de pip kamer (!). Maar als het dan klaar is blijf ik meestal lang tevreden met het resultaat.



Every piece of furniture in this room started its life in another color. I have painted and distressed everything.

And she gave me this one. Too bad that we sleep under duvets and covers, but when it is very hot in summer, I use these, what a pleasure!
Toen ik 46 werd kreeg ik van één van mijn BFF's deze lakens cadeau. Als je op de foto's klikt zie je veel meer details en begrijp je waarom ik er weg van ben.

This one, by Maroeska Metz, is a new one, but I couldn't resist it. That curl is typical Maroeska Metz.



A pink Marie style service and a 1920's one.



Nowadays I only collect complete services, but when I started I bought everything I could lay my hands on. The cups on the left have a text written on the back side. 'Voor een lief kind" = To a sweet child, and were given to me when my first one was born. (Yes E. to me not to you!).
Ja, je begreep het al: Ik verzamel ook kinderserviesjes. Nu koop ik alleen nog maar compleet, maar toen ik begon kocht ik ook losse spulletjes als ik eindelijk eens wat zag. Op de kopjes op deze foto staat de tekst 'voor een lief kind', ik kreeg ze van mijn oom en tante toen onze oudste geboren werd. Ja IK Eva.



What a party! To have to watch so many teapots without having one sip of tea or a cupcake. Sorry, no eating and drinking in here, I hate that!

On the cupboard there is a little service too, this one is vintage, from the dutch coffee manufacturer Douwe Egberts.



This fairy tale service from the 1920's is one of my favorites.



Just take a peek in the box or in the small drawers.

I wasn't planning this, but my kids had a vacation last week, so I didn't make time to blog for a week. Instead of that we did all kind of fun relaxing things. Like watching dvd's, go shopping, went for a family visit, invited friends over, eat a lot of chip and candy, we did some painting and I made 21 Easter tags for Andrea's Vintage Easter mini tag swap. No photos of the tags yet, I will not spoil the surprise ;-).

I received my one world one heart prizes: lookie lookie:

This stunning art work comes from Erin Long. The photo doesn't capture the beauty of 'Midnight' the black cat. I love that cat, we used to have one like this ourselves, but our Sjimmy had a tad of white. The fiber art little quilt is soo beautiful with Midnight in soft velvet and the watercolor is so pretty too. The card is a photo card of the little quilt, how clever is that? Of course my wall of fame isn't ready yet (in fact we still have to start that project). But these are certainly going to hang there too. Thanks so much Erin!



At another talented artist blog I won these prizes. Pat Haight all the way from Alaska send me the cellphone heart shaped hanger, the stylish ice bear brooch and the moose fridge magnet. You will not believe this but these are all made of clay. In fact Pat had so many responses on her owoh prizes that she decided to throw in some third prizes and now you know which lucky lady won these surprises. Thanks a million Pat!



Another owoh prize? No, no this is another example of my former swap mate Wanda's generosity! She found an awful lot of beautiful lace and send me a few miles to make something out of it. Stay tuned to see what I am going to make! This lace is really gorgeous, thanks a lot Wanda!

My mailbox was happily doing overtime...I love that:



I received two of these wonderful winged messengers. I'm so proud to be a humble assistant in a great project of Susanna Gordon. Look over here to see what this is all about. This is just a try out on my balcony. I do hope we will have not too much wind this week. You will see more of the winged messengers asap!

Nog even een Nederlandse vertaling: Had ik ineens zomaar ook een weekje vakantie genomen. De kids waren nl. ook vrij van school afgelopen week. We hebben alleen maar leuke dingen gedaan, lekker dvd's gekeken, geshopt, gekletst, op visitie geweest en ontvangen. Ach, het was heerlijk. Tussendoor heb ik 21 Paastags gemaakt voor Andrea's swap. Die zien jullie allemaal wel te zijner tijd. Verder maakte alleen de brievenbus overuren. Op de eerste twee foto's zien jullie de door mij gewonnen prijzen tijdens het one world one heart event. Een stoffen kunstwerk en een aquarel van poes Midnight door Erin Long en op de tweede foto een aantal kunstwerkjes van klei gemaakt door Pat Haight die helemaal in Alaska woont. Ik ben er heel erg blij mee bedankt dames. Al het kant kreeg ik zomaar van Wanda, die heel veel had kunnen kopen op een rommelmarkt. Ik ga er iets heel leuks van maken, wacht maar af. Op de laatste foto staat 1 van de 2 'winged messengers', gevleugelde boodschappers, van kunstenares Susanna Gordon. Kijk hier voor haar werk. Ik ga er hier in de buurt de boer mee op, tenminste als het niet te hard waait.

Hello you vintage wallpaper lovers out there!
I tried to make some kind of business cards today. The background is vintage wallpaper I received from the vintage button swap. Printing these cards was a bit of a disappointment because the cards turned out more brownish.

We all love that beautiful paper with roses, or flocks in candy colors, we love the crispy edges. Did you know that before there was wallPAPER there was wall linen, like the linen of paintings? In dutch we use the word: behang, it is related to the english to hang, like hanging on the wall. So in our language you cannot hear whether this is paper or not. The word used for the older type of 'behang' is 'behangsel'.
Last week I went to see some antique behangsels/wallhangings.

Dudok, Houttuinen Dordrecht

I didn't want to use a flashlight, because of the fragility of the 'behangsels'. You can see the 'craquelé', if you click the photos. These 'behangsels' are from around 1800, painted by Abraham van Strij, one of the famous Van Strij brothers from Dordrecht. The Dordrecht museum has recently bought five panels of 'behangsels', but unfortunately it was forbidden to take photos there. Here, at Dudok's the 'behangsels' are 'in situ' , which means at the place where they were meant to be originally. 95% of these paintings are vanished, either destroyed or exported out of the Netherlands. So these wallcoverings are quite unique.



Let's take a closer look. Though you could see in the previous photo that the light was bad, the colors are amazing. The panels which are hanging in the Dudok building at the Houttuinen in Dordrecht, where we were guests, thank you, are restored recently.





A detail. The gold is new goldleaf and in my opinion it is more beautiful when it will tarnish. New and young is not always more beautiful, hehehe!

I won the month prize at Linnea Maria's blog 'Linnea på Landet'.
Linnea Maria's work is truly amazing. Look what she did with a simple piece of broken glass. The insect is a drawing of her hand, no reproduction!
I'm so happy with this piece of art. I'm making a wall of fame. This piece certainly belongs there! My husband was thrilled with this too!

I wanted to show you this. I'm not always the last to decorate! I bought this cute guy this week. I think he will survive Easter!
