Prettige dagen = Nice days!

Hi!!

Hubby has vacation too and that means we are having a great time! Making little trips, going out for diner, shopping, visiting friends and relatives! And he has put a new tile floor in our basement! No pictures of that yet, first things first!
Zo dames, nu heeft hubby ook vakantie. Heeft hij mooi eens tijd om het souterrain te tegelen. Wij hebben hele prettige dagen;

Lekker shoppen, al kochten we deze tiara's niet.

So hubby couldn't complain at all!
En ook de oortjes lieten we liggen!


We visited my cousin and his family. His youngest was celebrating his first birthday. Here is my youngest having a great time at their swimming pool. Rest of relatives are sitting in the background.
Op verjaardags visite bij de jongste van mijn neef. Hier zie je mijn jongste zich prima amuseren in hun zwembad, terwijl de jarige met de rest van de visite op de achtergrond zit.

Everything unpacked! Look at these!! I love the magazine Louise, I have read it about a dozen times, but I still discover new things. Thank you so much for everything. That glitter bottle is sooo cute, the vintage rose pin is beautiful, it almost looks like a real fading rose. The journal is so pretty and those greeting cards are, well what can I say? Everything is too good to be true. You have spoiled me, Louise thank you sooo much!!!
Alsof het allemaal al niet gezellig genoeg was kwam de postbode ook nog eens met een pakje. Ik weet echt niet waar ik al die vrijgevigheid aan verdiend heb. Ditmaal won ik een eerste prijs bij Louise haar blog; at the pink gate. Geweldig wat een leuke prijzen. Somerset Studio is een geweldig tijdschrift dat hier helaas niet gemakkelijk te krijgen is. Bergen inspiratie! Ik ben weer zo verwend, hartstikke bedankt Louise!

Last Wednesday we went to Gouda (city hall in the background) to the flea market.
Afgelopen woensdag gingen we naar Gouda, naar Mont Martre, de zomer curiosa markt, een aanrader.


It's a nice market. No real bargains. But a good atmosphere and

er was genoeg te zien.



Looking at is sometimes even better than buying...
Soms is kijken beter dan kopen.


Ik zie nu pas die leuke nepworsten hangen, ik neem tenminste aan dat het nep is.



Gouda is a typical Dutch old city.
Een typisch Hollands stadje....



I have lived my entire life in Holland and I still love these canals.
Some other time I'll show you something of my home town.
Ik heb nog nooit ergens anders gewoond dan in Zuid Holland. Ik blijf die oude grachten prachtig vinden...ook waar ik woon, dat zal ik een volgende keer eens laten zien.




One of the main attractions of Gouda to me is 'Atelier Puur', which means something like Studio Pure, but Pure has another meaning too in Dutch, it means dark chocolate as well.
Een andere belangrijke attractie voor mij dan toch is Atelier Puur.



It smells like heaven to me. Do you see those chocolate rivers?
Are you still with me or off to the candy tin?
Pure = Happiness!

Nou ik hoef geloof ik niets uit te leggen voor diegenen die nu kwijlend achter hun pc zitten, de anderen zijn of naar de snoeptrommel of naar de koelkast...

Of course we didn't leave empty handed.

Natuurlijk vertrok ik niet met lege handen.
Het is echter niet meer mogelijk om nog foto's van de bonbons te laten zien...


This is the loot; an old childrens' book "prettige dagen", beginning 20th century about having a vacation, how appropriate. Some keyhole things. A menu, I'll show that picture better some other time. And I bought 2 wrapping paper sample booklets. Never seen something like those before.
They are awesome.

I bought a French or Belgium birth candy box.
This is my third, so we can speak of a collection...
Ik kocht een geboorte suiker doosje, mijn derde, er is dus nu serieus sprake van een collectie.



And we visited this friend who celebrated her 11th birthday.
Sometimes I think it's even more fun to put a party hat on someone you actually know than on a vintage picture. Btw I printed this picture in sepia. The picture is a bit blurry, sorry about that.
We zijn ook nog bij deze vriendin op verjaardagsvisite geweest.
Ik vind het eigenlijk nog leuker om een bekende een hoedje op te zetten dan op een vintage foto te plakken. Ik had de foto van onze vriendin wel eerst in sepia afgedrukt. Wel een blurry foto, sorry hoor.

My dress forms

Today August 1st is 'Show me your form' day, hosted by Tiffany. Thanks for the brilliant idea! Don't forget to check out Shabby Scraps to look for the list of other dress forms shown.

I always wanted to have a dress form. Even when I played with Barbie I tried to make a dress form out of a Barbie body, but I couldn't cut through those 60-ties' quality legs. Little did I know that within 10 years most Barbies would easily loose their legs, but that's a different story.

My mother had a friend named Loes who was always thrifting and going to flea markets. She owned the perfect dress form, according to my mother. My mum died unexpected about 12 years ago. And shortly after her her friend Loes died of breast cancer. My father knew that my mother thought that Loes' dressform would be perfect for me and when he heard that Loes' heirs were selling all of her collectibles, he didn't hesitate a moment and brought me this present:

This is an antique childrens size dress form in very good condition.
The linen is perfect and the wood too.
The best is the foot, or do I have to say feet?:

Every foot is a little carved out shoe!
I have never seen anything like that.
I am still so happy with this present. My father has passed away too, but when he brought in this dress form, he was so proud and I was so happy and this is such a good memory.

I usually show this form dressed;
she wears a little dress, a hat and a little bag, that belonged to my daughter when she was 4, the little gloves were mine in the 60ties.

I have another dress form.
It is a cheap one that still can be bought today.
I covered her in an old look linen.

Vandaag is het 'Show me your form' ofwel paspoppendag! Tiffany
heeft een lijst in haar blog met andere deelnemers. Ik ben nog steeds heel blij met mijn antieke kinder paspop die ik bijna 12 jaar geleden van mijn vader kreeg. Eigenlijk als een herinnering aan mijn moeder en ook aan haar vriendin Loes die allebei kort na elkaar overleden zijn, in 1996.
De paspop is in een heel goede conditie, het hout is mooi en het linnen is ook nog gaaf en mooi. Maar het leukst is wel de voet of moet ik zeggen de voetjes?
Dat zijn namelijk uitgesneden schoentjes.
Ik heb ook nog een nieuwe en zelfgepimpte paspop. Handig als prikbord.

Misschien hebben jullie al gehoord dat Dees (Vosgesparis) een ernstige operatie onder gaan heeft. Misschien is een extra commentaar op haar blog leuk, een kaarsje of een kaartje, net hoe je dat gewoon bent. Je kunt mij een email sturen voor haar adres in het ziekenhuis waar ze nog ongeveer 10 dagen zal moeten blijven. Vanaf hier sterkte Dees, het kaartje met de antieke foto is naar je onderweg!

Being a VIP!

Hi!!

At this moment the largest museum in our town is closed because of a renovation. A lot of artworks are touring around the world. And for us locals there is a small exhibition at the local art center, themed: 'Who do you live?'
No not 'Where do you live' but actually 'Who do you live' as some of our streets have names of artists who lived and or worked in our town. So that is the theme; this is an exhibition of Dordrechts' artist, mostly painters, who had a street named after them. Inhabitants of those streets were all invited (two streets at a time) to come over and have a VIP treatment. And of course my neighbour Z. and I couldn't resist being VIP's for a day!

It all started at the corner where we could take a seat in a hooded cart this afternoon. The horses took off and we were heading towards the art gallery. There we were welcomed and given a cocktail:

A selection of the paintings downstairs, portraits and interiors. We were told why these paintings were deserving a spotlight in the renovated museum, or why not.

Upstairs landscapes. They were all hung with parallel horizons; this way one could see one big horizon. Do try this at home!
After the tour we were given drinks and snacks, which were so good that I forgot to take pictures. I was too busy eating the eel and the French cheese!

This week I felt a VIP too when I received a package from Nicky. One of the sweetest blogging ladies around. Apparently she has studied my July banner closely; this is a shelf in my bathroom with some of my 'things with violets on them' collection (some pansies too, as we dutch all call them violets). Look what she has sent me:

Unbelievable, this is sooo me! You spoiled me Nicky, I still feel like a VIP, every time I look at these beauties. Thanks so much!

Onze straat in ongeveer 1900. Nog goed herkenbaar. Jammer dat er nu altijd zoveel auto's staan. Mijn buurvrouw Z. verzamelt deze ansichtkaarten en dankzij haar (hopelijk vindt ze het goed) staan ze nu in mijn blog.
Vandaag waren we als Vips uitgenodigd op de tentoonstelling Wie woon je? Een expositie van werken van schilders naar wie een straat genoemd is. Bewoners van die straat worden allemaal uitgenodigd en dan als Vips behandeld. Dat leek Z. en mij ook wel wat, dus vandaag gingen we per huifkar (ook voor ons geregeld) naar de tentoonstelling.
Daar kregen we een welkomstcocktail en daarna een zeer interessante rondleiding; welke werken zouden nog een plaatsje krijgen in het straks gerenoveerde Dordtse Museum? En welke niet en waarom niet? Het was heerlijk! Niet in de laatste plaats vanwege de drankjes en de hapjes. We voelden ons echte Vips!
Datzelfde gevoel had ik van de week toen ik het pakje van Nicky openmaakte en dat heb ik nog als ik naar alles kijk wat ze mij gestuurd heeft. Wat voel ik me toch een bevoorrecht mens om zulke lieve medeblogsters te kennen. Bedankt Nicky!!

Finally, finally our kids don't have school anymore, yeah school's out for Summer! I mentioned that we were counting down in my last post and almost every dutch speaking girl wished me a good vacation/trip, but as I mentioned then, we are not going anywhere yet. Mmm I think I have to improve my dutch ;-).

Six weeks off!! Yeah!! We are leaving for a short vacation to Paris in August, as we went to Florida in May already. Pffff we are tired. Monday night my son told me he desperately wanted a farewell party to end his time at this school. So while I was making a little scrapbook for his teacher and some goodies for the kids I decided to have that party on Friday and started making invitations! So we invited his class and the kids' parents to come over last Friday afternoon and also to have dinner with us. It was nice but I needed all weekend to recover lol. Some parents even admit that they are better in partying and eating soup and salad than in raising their kids and this is no joke, at least they are honest!

Between cooking and shopping for the party I have been reading blogs and leaving comments. This is a wonderful addiction. There is always so much to do in blogland: I signed up for the Vintage button card swap at Button Floozies and for Artsy Mama's Sweet and Sinister swap. August 1st will be 'Show me your form' day hosted by Tiffany at Shabby Scraps. See for all these blogger events my sidebar, though the buttonswap and the sweet and sinister swap are already full. And of course I was reading your comments, and your emails too and I even have received some snail mail from you. Merci!

And I was given a reward again by the very sweet María Elena. Muchos Gracias María! Next time I'll pay some more attention to this brilliant award, merci! This generosity all over blogland still amazes me. I also received a parcel in the mail from Marianne. She is fairly new in blogland, so perhaps if you have a spare moment pay her a visit at her 'rondrommel plekje' . She'll love it.

A little while ago Marianne offered me to look for a darn egg to complete my thread packages collection. I hope that darn egg is the right word. She has already found one, so you can check the word; it's the wooden egg in the middle, which was used to mend socks and stockings and other woolen clothing with the kind of thread that you see below left. I have a whole collection of those thread cards and I'm getting even more, as I've found Joy willing to trade some with me. Marianne didn't send me 'just' the egg, which would have been very nice of her, but look she made a whole ladies' package! Of course I like the buttons and the wooden spools and I'm also very fond of the French fashion magazine dated 1934. When you click the pictures you can see those genuine antique labels. Ooh you have spoiled me Marianne!! Thanks so much! The egg is the same one which my grandmother used to have and it's such a fine addition to my thread package collection, thanks!

I have traded 10 of my pug cards for 10 (was it Yorkshire?? I already told you I don't know anything about dogs, sorry!) terrier cards with Barbara at Oodles and Oodles. I don't know anymore what I have sent her, a vintage 3d Bambi card and some tags and some loose cards too I believe, and she sent me these!! We Dutch have a saying: when two are trading one is crying, if this is the truth I'm sure Barbara is. If you love mail, like I do, well I mean fun mail of course, not tax mail, trading is good! If you like to trade something, just mention what you are looking for in the comments. I will get back to you. I think I'll put some pictures in my Flickr album with things I have to offer somewhere this week.

I'll end with something creative: When you photocopy old advertisement magazines on colored paper you have a nice wrapping paper. This time I used pink paper:

I have glued the paper on a box, but of course you can use this as a wrapping paper too.
I like to wrap things nice! I think stamping the ribbon up for the occasion is a good idea too:

I'm using clear stamps, using the acrylic block as a measuring tool between the words. Just look at the photo and you know what I mean!

Nee dames, ik ben nog niet met vakantie. Pfff we zijn nu net de eerste week vrij heerlijk!!
Mijn jongste gaat van groep 8 naar de middelbare school en wilde nog zo graag een afscheidsfeestje. Dus vorige week tussen het maken van een tractatie en een scrapboekje door wat uitnodigingen gemaakt en vrijdag was het dan zo ver. De kids en hun ouders kwamen in de middag en bleven gezellig voor een eenvoudige doch voedzame maaltijd. Ha, ik heb het hele weekend nodig gehad om bij te komen. Wat zijn sommige kids toch druk en het lijkt wel of dat verband houdt met het talent dat hun ouders aan de dag leggen om zo af en toe eens in te grijpen. Maar het was toch heeeel gezellig!! Tussen het boodschappen doen en koken enzo door, wat nu eenmaal nodig is voor zo'n feestje, heb ik gezellig zitten bloggen. Lezen uiteraard. Zelf comments gezet en ook gelezen wat jullie allemaal te vertellen hadden. Ik kreeg een award van de Chileense Maria Elena. Ik kom hier nog op terug. Ook heb ik me weer voor van alles en nog wat opgegeven; een buttonswap, een halloween swap en een paspop show.
Ook was er weer post. Ik blijf me verbazen hoe aardig en vrijgevig al die bloggers toch zijn.
Dit keer kreeg ik een geweldig pakket van Marianne. Zij is nog niet zo heel lang actief in blogland, dus misschien is het leuk als jullie eens kennis gaan maken! In het pakket een stop-ei, een frans tijdschrift uit 1934, de knoopjes die nog op mijn verlanglijst stonden, wat stopgaren (deze had ik nog niet) en werkelijk prachtige etiketten, ja echte etiketten geen printjes dames!
Helemaal blij natuurlijk! Merci Marianne! Ook was ik blij met mijn ruil met Barbara van Oodles en Oodles. Ik stuurde haar wat buldog (?) kaartjes op en kreeg van haar terrier (?) kaartjes retour en natuurlijk nog wat extra goodies! Ik ben dol op dit soort post! Ruilen is leuk en als er al 1tje huilt dan ben ik dat niet lol! Wil je ook graag ruilen? Zeg me wat je zoekt en ik kom er dan op terug! Als laatste nog 2 creatieve ideetjes; het eerste is oude advertenties op gekleurd papier kopiëren, zo heb je leuk inpak papier. Het tweede is dat je lint kunt stempelen met een woord geschikt voor de gelegenheid; happy birthday, bonjour of merci.
Jullie allemaal bedankt voor jullie lieve berichtjes, een fijne zomer, ik blijf voorlopig nog even hier, tot ziens!
