A collection of 28: letter slots

Today I want to show you one of my virtual collections: photos of letter slots. I have about a 100 different letter slots on photo. All photos on the mosaic were taken in my home town.
Brieven is dutch for letters by the way.
Vandaag wil ik een virtuele verzameling laten zien; foto's van 28 brievenbussen. Ik heb inmiddels ongeveer 100 foto's van verschillende brievenbusplaten, zoals ze officieel heten, maar ik zal het verder over brievenbussen hebben in dit verband. De foto's uit het mozaiek zijn allemaal in mijn woonplaats gemaakt. 

The advantages of virtual collections are obvious; they take hardly any space. Questions like: 'Don't you have enough...?' 'What are you going to do with...?' are seldom heard. It doesn't cost a thing and I truly can enjoy finding a letter slot that isn't in my collection yet.
De voordelen van zo'n virtuele verzameling zijn duidelijk; zo'n verzameling neemt nauwelijks plaats in. Zelden hoor je vragen als: 'Wat moet je daar nou weer mee?' of: 'Heb je nog niet genoeg...?' Het kost niets en ik kan echt van een aanvulling op mijn verzameling genieten.

 This^ letter slot in the door of neighbour Z. should be the same as the one in our home.
Deze^ brievenbus in de deur van buuv Z. zou dezelfde moeten zijn als die in ons huis. 

Someone thought that it would be better for the inhabitants of our house to have a big ugly letter slot, very convenient for large magazines, so we ended up with this^ fake antique one :-(
Ergens heeft iemand bedacht dat het voor de bewoners van dit huis beter zou zijn als ze een grote  nep antieke brievenbus zouden hebben, zo gemakkelijk voor grote documenten en tijdschriften, dus wij zittten nu opgezadeld met deze^ lelijkerd :-(

Just around the corner lives Mrs. Wil, former teacher of our son, in a very well preserved art nouveau property, a former flower shop. Even the graphics on the letter slot are art nouveau.
Om de hoek woont juffrouw Wil (ooit onderwijzeres van onze jongste) in een prachtig goed bewaard art nouveau winkelpand. Zelfs de letters op de brievenbus zijn in stijl. 

 There is another lovely art nouveau letter slot across the street.
Een mooie art nouveau brievenbus aan de overkant van de straat. 

When I was in Maastricht I was looking for letter slots too. Maastricht is just a few miles away from the French speaking part of Belgium, which is noticeable.
Toen we 2 weken geleden in Maastricht waren heb ik daar ook gezocht naar mooie brievenbussen.  Zo eentje met 'lettres' zul je hier in Dordrecht niet snel tegen komen. 

My other virtual collections are: house numbers, you have seen the numbers 1 to 28 already every day in this collection series, doorknockers here and gables, a word that I found on google translate, it might be something Dutch or European and it looks like this:
Mijn andere virtuele verzamelingen zijn: huisnummers, de nummers 1 tot en met 31 zullen in deze serie figureren, deurkloppers, waarover ik hier blogde en gevelstenen die nog aan bod zullen komen. Een voorproefje: 'De werlt (wereld) is opt (op 't) endt (endt =zowel einde als eend). En dat is dan ook op het plaatje te zien. In zo'n huis kan gemakkelijk iemand gewoond hebben die 'eend' heette of een poelier. Wat voor gevelsteen zou bij jouw 16de eeuwse huis passen? Ik kom hier nog op terug.

Such a stone in the facade of a house usually has a lot of meanings. I'll translate: De werlt (wereld) is opt (op 't) endt (einde=eend=duck). Means something like the world is ending, hard to explain that ending is the same word as 'on a duck' in 16th century dutch. And you see: the world is on a duck. Usually someone by the name of Duck was living here. Now what would you have as a gable on your 16th century home? Stay tuned for a gable stone post and my imaginary gable.
